Winning & Mah Jongg

False Mah Jongg

Declaring Mah Jongg with a hand that doesn't actually match any pattern on the card is a False Mah Jongg, usually caught by another player calling "Muggins."

A False Mah Jongg typically carries a penalty under house or league rules — often the offending player's hand is simply ruled dead for the rest of the round.

Example

If a player calls Mah Jongg but is missing a required pair, an opponent who spots it can call "Muggins" to challenge the claim.
