Some players also like a lazy Susan or tile pusher in the middle for passing tiles or snacks around without disrupting the walls.
Good lighting is another underrated detail. A table lamp or overhead fixture that clearly illuminates the tiles helps everyone read their hands accurately, especially as eyesight changes with age. Nobody wants to accidentally call the wrong tile because the room was a little too dim.
Comfortable Seating Counts Too
It’s easy to focus on the table and forget about the chairs. Since games can run an hour or more, chairs with decent back support make a noticeable difference in how everyone feels by the end of the session. If your regular dining chairs aren’t cutting it, a set of dedicated card table chairs might be worth considering.

None of this is about luxury for its own sake. It’s about removing small annoyances so everyone can focus on the game and the company. When the table is steady, the lighting is good, and the chairs are comfortable, conversation flows more easily and nobody’s distracted by a sliding tile or an aching back.
