369

An NMJL card category built from the numbers 3, 6, and 9.

The 369 category has been one of the most stable sections of the NMJL card. It has appeared on essentially every modern NMJL card for many decades, although the individual hands change from year to year. What changes each year is:
  • The exact combinations of 3s, 6s, and 9s.
  • Whether the hand uses one suit, two suits, or three suits.
  • The placement of dragons, flowers, winds, or the year.
  • Whether a hand is concealed or exposed.
  • The point values.
The NMJL’s goal is to create a fresh card each year while keeping the familiar major categories. The 369 category is considered a “core” category, much like:
  • 2026 (or the current year)
  • 13579
  • Winds–Dragons
  • Consecutive Run
  • Quints
  • Singles & Pairs
